Transitional rules from Reform ’94 to the Knowledge Promotion



The main rule is as follows:

  • If you have successfully completed a foundation course in Reform ’94 before 1 August 2010, this can in principle be validated as the equivalent of Vg1 within the same subject area in the Knowledge Promotion and you can apply to a Vg2.
  • If you have successfully completed a VKI in Reform ’94 before 1 August 2010, this cam om principle be validated as the equivalent of Vg2 in the same subject area in the Knowledge Promotion, and you can apply to a Vg3.

Your school counsellor or the administration at your school, or the admissions office in your county can give you more information about which Vg2 or Vg3 you are qualified to apply to. 

Programmes for general studies

If you have successfully completed the foundation course in general and business studies, sports and physical education or music, dance and drama, you must note the following:

Mathematics

 

If you complete upper secondary education in the spring of 2009 or later, the requirement for university admissions certification is a minimum of 224 hours per year in mathematics (as opposed to previous requirements of 5 periods per week/ 140 periods per year). Passed common general subject mathematics from foundation course in Reform ’94 combined with a minimum of 3 periods per week mathematics as a specialized subject in Reform ’94 will meet the requirement for university admissions certification in the Knowledge Promotion.

Social sciences

If you are accepted to Vg2 in natural science and mathematics studies or languages, social sciences and economics studies from the foundation course in general and business studies in Reform ’94, you must document that you have successfully completed 84 periods per year in social sciences to meet the requirement for university admissions certification in the Knowledge Promotion.

Common core subjects

It has been determined that the following subjects in programmes for general studies can be validated as eqivalent on transition from Reform ’94 to the Knowledge Promotion. The number of periods per week are quoted as units of 45 minutes. Number of hours per year are quoted as units of 60 minutes.

Programme subjects

 

Most specialized subjects from Reform –94 can, in accordance with certain rules, be validated as programme subject in the Knowledge Promotion if the in-depth requirements and total number of hours are met. Contact the administration at your school or your school counsellor, or the admissions office, if you want more information about this. The regulations have been determined by the Directorate for Education and Training.

If a subject from Reform ’94 is carried on at a higher level in the Knowledge Promotion, you are always personally responsible for acquiring the academic competence necessary for carrying on with the subject.

Vocational education programmes

The following subjects are validated as equivalent in the transition between Reform ’94 and the Knowledge Promotion. The number of periods per week are quoted as units of 45 minutes. Number of hours per year are quoted as units of 60 minutes.

Which foundation courses in Reform ’94 can be validated as equivalent to Vg1 in the Knowledge Promotion have been determined by the Directorate for Education and Training. Contact the administration at your school or your school counsellor, or the admissions office, if you want more information about this.

It is up to the county authorities to decide which VkI can be validated as a basis for Vg3 in school or training establishments in the Knowledge Promotion.
