Subjects and choice of subjects

On the pages showing the education programmes, you can find a description of the contents of each programme area, with the distribution of the periods and subjects which specifies how many hours you must take in each subject, which subjects you have to take and which ones you may choose as electives. Se example from Specialization in general subjects and example from Building and construction.

You can also find links to descriptions of the subjects, taken from the subject curricula:

The distribution of periods and subjects in vocational education programmes

The distribution of periods and subjects between common core subjects, programme subjects and vocational specialization is the same for all vocational education programmes at Vg1 and for all programme areas at Vg2. The distribution of periods and subjects between common core subjects and programme subjects is also the same for all vocational programme areas that have Vg3 at school. You will find the distribution of periods and subjects in the structure map, see links below.

You find the distribution of periods and subjects in the structure map:

Flexible distribution of periods and subjects

  •  The distribution of periods and subjects is a recommendation. This means that the school owner may place subjects at another level than that shown in the structure in the ordinary distribution of periods and subjects.
  • When subjects are moved between levels, emphasis must be on the progress in the subject. This entails that subjects that build on each other must be taken in the order decided in the subject curriculum.
  • Only entire subjects can be moved between levels.
  • If the school owner plans an alternative distribution of periods and subjects, the pupils must have the same composition of periods and subjects and examinations during three years of education as pupils with the ordinary distribution of periods and subjects.
