As a confectioner, you may find employment at a pastry shop or with a baker who makes pastry goods. Other places of work might be hotels, restaurants, and other large-scale households.

Key tasks

Key tasks include:

  • use and storage of raw goods to be used in production
  • decorating and putting together all types of cakes and other sweet baked goods
  • use of traditional and newer methods of preparation and conservation
  • use of suitable production methods
  • adaptation of recipes and production processes to meet company and client needs
  • mastery, use, and maintenance of machines and other equipment

Personal qualities

A confectioner should know his trade well, work systematically, be rational, efficient, hygienic, and precise. It is an advantage to have a sense of color, form, creativity, and imagination. You should be good at working with your hands.
